President's Letter - by Betty Price

On January 5th, I assumed the responsibility as President of Unit 106. I'd like to express a thank you to the board for asking me to serve in this capacity. I'd like to thank the board members and committee members for their support and their acceptance of their many responsibilities. A special welcome to three new members of the board: Betty Hough, Carol McMackin and Blair Seidler.

The annual dinner was a delightful occasion with Frank Grunebaum, Mary Giannella, and their committee making special plans for all of us. Thank you for your efforts.

Help Wanted! As I look to the future, my goals include having more members support the board members in their responsibilities. We have over 1250 members in our unit. If you receive a call or request asking you to work on a committee, please say yes. As much as the tournament chairs Barbara Dahl and Betty King worked on the sectional many other hands were needed to make it a success. This past sectional had over 30 people working in some capacity. The hospitality Committee prepared the food, the Site Committee under Andy Lohan's directions helped with set up, parking, and general room arrangements. We also had shoppers, pairings, and coverage for Betty King as she helped Bob in his recuperation. Amy Nellissen had her committee assisting in the Saturday Morning game for new players. Granted the weather and furnace problems did not give us a good start on Friday, but Saturday and Sunday were terrific. Thanks to all of you who helped at some time. Please call or volunteer to one of the board members to help. The many committees and chairs are listed in the directory. Bridge is a big part of our lives; give back a few hours to serve this exciting game.

Please plan to attend the Bob Johnke Team Event on March 29th. The Bob Johnke has been revised to offer a challenge to all members of the unit. Check the details in your January newsletter or in the brochures available on the Web, in this newsletter or at the clubs. It is a great day offering good bridge competition; a great meal and you can't beat the price as it is subsidized by the unit. Where else can you play two sessions of bridge with your teammates, and receive your dinner for $15?

Our next sectional is in Allendale on April 25th, 26th and 27th. See you there.
